You can review the current dress code below. A proper dress code keeps our dancers safe, allows our teachers to observe their technique, and promotes unity among our students. We have a small in-studio shop where you can purchase everything your child needs for class. Dancewear can also be purchased at nimbly.com/crazymovesdance
New families do not need to worry about having everything they need for the first week of class. Socks and athletic clothing can work just fine for a week or two!
Students are welcome to wear what they feel comfortable moving in, with the following exceptions:
No denim.
No flare pants.
No pants that are long enough to trip on.
No baggy clothing that prohibits the instructor from being able to determine correct form.
Hair must be up in either a ponytail, bun, braids, or pigtails. As long as it is up and out of their face, we do not mind the hairstyle.
It is our recommendation that students wear a leotard and tights to every class. This is a “special dance outfit”, which will mentally prepare them for dance class. It also provides us with the ability to assess their form and give detailed guidance. Shorts, leggings, or skirts can be worn with the leotard.
Shoes
Tap Classes:
Students need black tap shoes that are no-tie, so these can be slip-on or Velcro. Eight and up classes have the same shoe dress code, but we recommend them getting slip-on split sole tap shoes as they become more advanced.
Ballet Classes:
For students under 8 years old, Pink, full-sole, leather ballet slippers. For students 8 and older, Pink, split-sole, leather ballet slippers.
Many ballet shoes have laces to tighten the shoe around the student's foot. Once you have this tightened around your student's foot, tie 2 simple knots to the desired tightness and cut off excess strings. Ballet shoes do not need to be tied like tennis shoes, in a bow-like form; little ones often get distracted by untying them or playing with the strings. Cutting them short will prevent this.
Lyrical/Modern Classes:
Nude half-sole shoes, otherwise known as “Turners”. As they get more advanced, this may change to barefoot or socks, at the teacher‘s discretion.
Jazz Classes:
Black leather jazz shoes
Hip-Hop/Poms:
Black sparkle, tennis shoes. These can only be bought through the studio as we purchase them through a costume company.
Move with Me Classes:
Grippy socks to prevent the little ones from slipping! No shoes necessary

Students ages 3 and up perform in our annual recital each June if they are a part of our Fall or Spring Sessions. Lights, costumes, and a theater bring this production to life! Students get valuable performance opportunities while making lifelong memories. Students looking for additional performance opportunities should consider auditioning for our Competition Team!
Students ages 3 and up can also perform in our Winter Showcase that takes place each January. To be a part of our Winter Showcase, you can enroll in classes labeled “Winter Session”. You can choose to join just our Winter Session for a shorter dance season, or you can do both our Winter and Fall Sessions for the opportunity to perform at multiple shows!
For all performance opportunities, adult dancers have the option to perform or not! Some adults can’t wait to dance on stage for the full experience, while others are happy with just the dance classes for exercise and education. All adult dance classes will learn the choreography performed on stage, regardless of whether a student opts in or out of performing.
With the intention to provide flexibility, our Summer Session Season does not offer an on-stage performance. Classes are focused strongly on technique, introductions to a new style, and skill building for the upcoming season. While you may not see a Crazy Moves Show over the summer, you will catch us at local parades with students walking with us!

Classes for students under 8 are divided by age. For dancers 8 and up, both age and dance experience determine the best level for your child. If your dancer has previous experience, we recommend scheduling a trial for level evaluations. After seeing your child in class, our teachers are happy to make a class recommendation!
Current Crazy Moves Dance Studio dancers are evaluated each spring. Their evaluation includes class recommendations for the upcoming Summer and Fall Sessions.
Still, unsure? Contact the studio. We are happy to help you find the best class for your child.
